All About Bernedoodles

A Bernedoodle is a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a  Poodle. Known for their gentle nature, friendly personality, and unwavering loyalty, Bernedoodles make wonderful family companions.

Coat

Bernedoodles may have a straight, wavy, or curly coat depending on generation and parent pairing. Most Bernedoodles shed very little to none, though straighter coats may shed slightly more. For families with mild pet allergies, an F1B or higher generation Bernedoodle is typically recommended. Their coat requires regular maintenance. When grown out, frequent brushing is essential, while a trimmed coat is relatively easy to manage. Unlike double-coated breeds, the Bernedoodle coat can be safely shaved without causing damage. We recommend daily brushing and professional grooming every 6–8 weeks to prevent tangles and matting.

Appearance

Bernedoodles come in a beautiful variety of colors, including Black Tri, Bi-Black, and Sable. Our program primarily focuses on Merle, Phantom, and Tri coloring.

  • Tri Bernedoodles feature black and white coats with copper accents along the face, legs, and above the eyes.

  • Phantom Bernedoodles are predominantly black (or brown) with copper markings on the face, legs, chest, and above the eyes.

  • Merle Bernedoodles feature blue or red merle pattern, which are patches of gray to black hues mixed with white or patches of chocolate to tan hues mixed with white.

Size

We currenty specialize in two different sizes, our Bernedoodles typically stand between 13 – 17 inches at the shoulder and weigh approximately 20 – 30+ pounds when fully grown and 18 – 21 inches at the shoulder and weigh approximately 30 – 50+ pounds when fully grown  . Females are generally smaller than males.

Temperament

Bernedoodles are happy-go-lucky, loyal, and laid back. Often described as gentle giants, they do exceptionally well with children of all ages. They are social dogs who thrive on companionship and love being close to their humans.

Training

Highly intelligent and eager to please, Bernedoodles respond best to positive reinforcement training that includes rewards, patience, consistency, and gentle firmness. Basic training should begin as soon as your Bernedoodle puppy comes home.

Activity Level

Bernedoodles are an easygoing breed with low to medium energy levels. They enjoy daily walks and regular exercise, along with mental stimulation to prevent boredom. Perfect for families who enjoy outdoor activities but also appreciate a relaxed companion at home, Bernedoodles are equally happy adventuring or lounging by your side.
